Week 13 Step 23 Conslussion

I have had a fabulous time exploring every aspect of 23 Things and learnt so much along the way. My favourite tasks were igoogle, Library Thing, Google maps and Google book search. I guess i have now discovered Google! More interactive learning would be fun.

Week 12 Step 22 Second Life and libraries

I have listened to several podcasts on Second Life. At first i really couldn't see the relevance to libraries but now understand how this application could be an advantage to libraries and teaching. Personally i wouldn't become involved in a second life as i spend too much time in the virtual world outside in the fresh air not in front of a computer.

Week 11 Step 21 Podcasts

There are two types of Podcasts, one through RSS feeds which are audio and the other through Youtube which are visual as well. I have linked my favourite audio.

Week 9 Step 18 Library 2.0

Blah, blah, blah so much reading. One comment stood out for me...

"What we need to do is become comfortable in this reality of constant change. Week 8 Step 16 Google Home Page

This was also a lot of fun! I am learning so much it's mind boggling. Being able to play for a period of time has also helped and knowing we have backup if needed. Like everyone else, working at Google would be awesome, but I'm not much of a computer nerd so that wouldn't work very well.

I hate spreadsheets, don't ask me why but after doing this task they don't seem so scary. With Kat's help I have managed to complete this task, thanks Kat.

Google maps is a fantastic tool. I have entered a road trip and found the most direct route. This enabled me to see how far in Kms the journey is and how long it will take.(1512 kms)

Week 6 Get Social-Facebook

My teenage children are now groaning as their mother is now on Facebook! Thanks to Gayle and Kat for making me a bit more literate in this area. Gayle, your a star! I now have two friends. Don't know that I would spend time inside using Facebook all that much but I have enjoyed the process of learning about it. I have also joined the Deakin Network.

Week 6 Step 12 Explore Myspace

I have started to explore MySpace, really not my thing but will persevere and see what unravels. I have now looked at some Library MySpace pages.
1. These Libraries are targeting the younger audience and having some success and drawing the teens back to the library
2. Headings that I would find useful would be new books and dvd's, new items and calenders
3. Deakin and Swinburn do not have official MySpace pages.
Is anyone else getting bogged down with all the passwords involved in 23 Things? I also now understand how my children spend so much time on the computer without realising.

Week 5 Step 9 /10/11 Install a feed reader

I used Firefox as my feed reader and subscribed to five sites and found the process quite simple. This is a real time saver. I have also subscribed to digg successfully.This photo is of the mine rescue at Mt. Clear on ABC news today.

Week 4 Step 8 Library Thing

I am going to enjoy sharing my reading experiences and viewing others of similar reading interests. Unfortunately some of the books I have listed do not have published pictures or perhaps I am doing something wrong. Any suggestions appreciated.It's OK i figured it out! Thanks to Gaz for his expertise in helping to set this up. I am finding there isn't much to tell you where/when/how to start some of these tasks which is a bit frustrating.

This is exciting, i can now share all these beautiful photos of horses from around the world.I have joined a group called Horses in Motion. "Horses are a wealth hazard but oh so beautiful!"

Week 2 Create a blog

Well finally we have been able to begin 23 things. Due to workloads in our area even getting 15 minutes uninterrupted thinking time is impossible during term time. We launched the day with a scrumptious morning tea (any excuse!) and then it was down to business.
